The main front door was a broken “stable” door while a second door was intended for animals only, leading in to an earth-floored room at the east end of the building. This room had a low door leading in to the main house and would become the entrance hall and main bathroom so its door became the main entrance while the stable door would be enlarged to make french windows for the lounge. |

The same procedure gave us a proper door from the lounge into the new hallway. |

Once the septic
tank was in we could have a proper toilet and this was easily
plumbed in and located where a previous owner has installed a “shower
room” at the back of the kitchen(!). |

|
French electrics are simple with
each circuit as a simple branch from the mains consumer unit. We
can put up to three double sockets per power line and up to 7 lights
per lighting line with separate line for washing machine/dryer and
for the water heater. |

We
acro-propped the walls above the two doors while we chopped out
the new doorways and installed lintels. The dust was incredible
as the clay matrix that held the stonework had dried out over
the years and we removed various animal and serpent skeletons
from ancient nests. It took two days with a chainsaw to cut out
the old oak lintels but we could not have reused them as they
were the wrong size and much wood-wormed.
