The
old animal shelter at the east end of the house became our hallway
and bathroom but first we had to dig out the rear of the earth
floor and get it partly level. We packed down a bed of gravel
in which we included pipes and connections for the bathroom and
also a connection for the future upstairs bathroom.
The hot water system was installed next and then we concreted
the floor, raising the level at the front of the house to match
that of the lounge. This brought the drainage pipes out below
the level of the terrace so they are neatly concealed.
It was then a simple matter (!) to build the walls, incorporating
a room behind the bathroom to house the electrics, hot water tank
and some storage. We added a bath with shower over it and moved
the wash basin and loo from the old shower room behind the kitchen.
A special feature is the tiny window to the rear which we unblocked
and double glazed with a beach scene between the glass panes.
